You can go diving in Barbados  from the beaches and boats which offer an abundance of sea life, corals, sponges, wrecks and good visibility. As the east coast has strong currents and undercurrents, all of the dive centers are on the west coast, facing the Caribbean.

Visibility ranges from 40'/12m to 70ft/21m and the sea is a constant 80F/ 27C. You will probably see Hawksbill turtles and may see a frog fish and sea horses. Barbados is roughly 21 miles long with coastlines on two seas - the calm  Caribbean and slightly rougher Atlantic. The barrier reefs are 1/2 - 2 miles from shore. There's a Marine Park off Folkestone.

Emergency: There is a recompression chamber at the headquarters of the Barbados Defence Force in St. Ann's Fort.

Please let us know about the 25m/60' fringing reefs, the 10 shipwrecks around the island.

especially the wreck of the 356' long Greek freighter Stavronikita that lies in 140'/42m, with her main deck at 90'/26m.

Greek freighter Stavronikita. I dived this ship 6 years ago, when on my honeymoon in Barbados. It lies off the coast in the Caribbean Sea. My brother (Best Man) and I, dived this site 3 times in two weeks, and we both enjoyed it every time. It is at quite a depth at the deepest point about 140 feet/42m, rising up to about 60 feet, and shouldn't be attempted by novice divers. But the viz was good every time, and there were no currents that needed thinking about.
The ship is in good condition, and you can get right inside the cargo hold, take a good look up when inside at the bottom. There is a fair amount of rust, and this can be dangerous if you are not careful. There was not great amount of fish life on the ship, but plenty of sponges. The Sergeant majors all sit in a line over the bridge, and every dive we saw what must have been the same Barracuda hanging around the buoy rope when we were on our way back up. Inside one of the rooms, was a very large fish, but we didn't have our torches, so couldn't make out what it was, and we weren't going to get inside with it, for a closer look.
If you are not into wrecks, don't bother, but saying that, if I ever go back, I will dive it again! Paul.
