Visibility ranges from about 1m to 15m normally, although 25m is sometimes recorded. Tidal currents in some places are dangerous. Novice divers should be under strict supervision and you should always ask local advice before diving.

There are hundreds of wreck sites around the coastline, but the shallower ones get broken by winter storms.

We've tried to lay out the pages so that you can print off the dive information easily and take the details with you. If you take nothing else from our directory, print off the dive centres phone list of the area you are diving before you travel in case you need air refills, spares or an alternative to your intended dive site.

Internet use is surging in Great Britain. There are 10 million homes connected and another one is connected every 8 seconds. The average household spends seven and a half hours online every week.

Which makes this a great place to put your advert.

Marine life around England can be abundant, including cod, dolphins, wrasse, mullet, flatfish, crabs, lobsters, sponges, anemones and kelp beds. The more popular dives are found along the south and west coasts, and the Scilly Isles, as well as in freshwater lakes and quarries inland. In April, the North Sea is around 8C and Cornwall in the south west is 11C.
In July it rises to 11C in Orkney, 13 in Ireland and the west coast, 14 on the east coast and 17 around Cornwall

Accommodation of all types is readily available, but you may need to book popular areas well in advance. The signs "B & B" seen in newspapers and while driving means 'bed and breakfast'.

A brief note about travelling by train in the UK - the old 'British Rail' monopoly has been split and a number of independent operators have franchises. It's a mess. Don't rely on timetables being accurate, do try to book your seat (it's usually cheaper than buying on the day) and definitely telephone several times to check the best price for your journey, even to the same operator.
