Archelon is the sea turtle protection society in Greece

Loggerhead Turtles have bred on the beaches of Zakynthos for the last 10,000 years. The breeding and hatching season is between May to early October. They lay 80 to 100 eggs in a night. Only 1 in a thousand hatchlings survive to be adults. Their first danger are tourists – before the nests were protected, tourist walked over the nests and eggs, stuck beach umbrellas in them, and their dogs chased the hatchlings.

The Laganas Bay area is the National Marine Park of Zakynthos. There are strict regulations governing fishing, watersports and boats. Tourists are asked to restrict umbrella usage and to keep away from the nesting beaches at night.
