Africa

Mozambique has a very small tourist industry due to war and floods. Although it has a 2,500km coastline, its only a few resorts are on the islands of the Bazaruto archipelago, north of Maputo. There are white sand beaches and coral reefs. Bazaruto includes the islands of Magaruque, Banque, Benguerra and Paradise

On the north coast is the Quirimbas archipelago. An area of 32 small coral outposts, many still have malaria.

The national park is 500,000 hectares and both water skiing and jet skis are banned. There are sea horses and dugong - herbivore sea mammal. Outside of high season (May to November) the weather is unpredictable. For the non-diver there is a wealth of wildlife on land: birds including flamingos, petrels and ospreys.

Armed robbery is regular in Maputo. The British Foreign Office (www.fco.gov.uk/travel/countryadvice ) and USA State dept (http://travel.state.gov/travel_warnings_html ) give advice.

None yet. Have you dived Inhaca, the Ponta Malangani,or the Quirimba Archipelago? If you a wondering what to put, why not review our Oman or Madagascar pages for ideas? Please tell us about a dive along the coast or in the Rivers Limpopo,  Sabi, Zambeze, Lurio or any of the many others flowing into the Indian Ocean. And there are sharks and a few crocodiles..

Thank you.
