Water is around 29C in January and
25C in August. There are caverns and coral gardens, but no rivers, streams
or lagoon - the dives are straight into the Pacific. Visibility is
usually over 30 metres and can exceed 50 metres especially during April -
November (the dry season). The airport is just south of Alofi. Coral reefs surround the whole island. You will probably
see; turtles, many reef fish, the timid Niuean sea snake, reef sharks,
'spinner' Dolphins and
Humpback Whales (June to
November) on their migration from Antarctica to warmer northern
waters.
