There was a slim chance of seeing a shoal of sharks - but not today! The currents along the shelf were strong - Caver Colins' mask was nearly pulled off when he turned around.

Depth 17m/35ft.
Lots of hard corals, a carpet of gorgonians and other soft corals. Plenty here for the photographer with the best less than 10m deep. We disturbed a 4ft Eagle Ray. The coral fish seem to be much bigger here than other world sites.

Rukk Suwayk Reef:

Updated Oct 1999 by 'Anorak', Dogs Breath Diver

Depth 43m. Viz 25m.
The reef starts at 5m and goes much deeper than we did. Must be dived at slack. Best dive ever for content: 2 white tipped sharks, a baby (5m) whale shark swimming 2m directly above our heads (our bubbles were going sideways), a turtle, the usual collection of corals, and we watched a ray from above for a few minutes as we rested at 5m. Temp 30C at 30m/100ft. Fish shoals too. Turtle. Large bat fish.

Dive Operators: Scuba International and Musandam Explorers.

This is a typical scene, all year round. I actually wondered what the people in the office at home were having for their lunch! .

Dive 1 Depth 37m. Viz 10m. A whale shark just 3m in front of me at 20m! It makes no effort to move but I couldn't keep up with it. We spent lunch helping a local fishing family haul in their net. They released a small ray and a turtle back to the open sea.

Dive Operators: Scuba International and Musandam Explorers.

Dive 2 Depth 51m. Viz 10m - 15m. Temp 26C. Rock and small number of corals.

A dismantled plane being transported by boat which sank in the inlet. Depth 5m/15ft.  Loads of fish and some big ones in the wheelhouse. Branching coral of over 2ft. If you decide to take photographs, and they can be good, remember to get there before the sun goes behind the mountains.
