water and reasonably good visibility, but surprisingly few dive centres and air
stations.
We've tried to lay out these pages so that you can print off the dive
information easily and take the details with you. If you take nothing
else from our directory, print
off the dive centres phone list of the area you are diving before you travel in case you
need air refills, spares or an alternative to your intended dive site.

I live in Almunecar and have dived the walls of Punta de La Mona , seen the cavern at Cerro Gordo and dived the Tres Picos,
Almunecar, Costa Tropical, Andalucia, Spain.
Serene dive, Overhanging walls, sandy bottom. 18 degsC bottom temp 25m. Octopi, Sunfish, Rainbow Wrasse (very friendly if you slap your
fist).

Good cavern (not qualified to go in) saw it from the entrance. Good RV point at 'the
tyre' depth 30m. Wall anemones , Peacock fans, Octo's , Cuttle fish. 20 degsC. Tres Picos: Shallow plateau, drops
off to 40m in places, Swim through , good walls, cuttlefish. 17-20 degsC.

Cueva Chica Penon

Diving is still superb in Almunecar and the Costa
tropical. I have some info re the dives around our superb area.
You have got to visit the Cueva Chica with
its 100m long tunnel into an air pocket that is open to the sky
through a very small hole in the cavern roof and when the sun
hits it just right, there is a spotlight through the hole through
the water to the sandy bottom its spectacular !!.
Recently dived around the Penon Del Santo,
a good dive, that gives the inexperienced diver the feeling of a
current when you go around the point and on to the other side -
Its a bit like walking around the corner into the wind -- until
you get on the leeward side. No more than 17m deep with plenty of
small Octopusses /Octopii ( never sure which is correct) and
shoals of sardines ( bigger than the ones in tins !!) give a
fantastic light show as they wheel and dart around you.
David and I also explored another area close to
Cala Del Perro for an hour and enjoyed the Lobsters in a
small mouth of the rock. We left them unmolested of course so as
to allow others to share in our enjoyment. I hope to dive the
wrecks next month so I'll drop you another note and let you know
how it goes.

- Have you dived the walls of Punta de La Mona or seen the cavern at Cerro Gordo? Perhaps you've dived the
Tres Picos?
- You can also dive at Estartit on the Costa Brava which is surrounded by a coral reef. There are many fish
there as The Medes is protected as a Nature Reserve.
- Please let us know what diving elsewere in Spain is like.
