Central America

In 1493 Christopher Columbus named the island St. Christopher in honour of the patron saint of travellers, which is now known as St Kitts. This island is home to 35,000 Kittitians.

Both St Kitts and Nevis its sister island are of volcanic origin with central mountain range rising from the sea, with dense tropical rainforest covering the summit and upper slopes. Basseterre is the capital of St. Kitts.
