Off-shore California has giant kelp forests which can reach 100ft/30metres high. Warming sea temperatures are not good for giant kelp which grows best between 6-14C and 30m high growing 3ft/1metre a day.

Has anyone dived Bishops Rock along Cortes Bank? It is the peak of a 17 mile underwater mountain range that rises to just three feet below the surface of the Pacific. The surf waves usually reach heights of 30 - 40 feet and often peaks up to 60ft. 
OK, so the Cortes Bank is 100 miles from  the nearest shore at  San Diego, and a giant stride could be interesting in this surf which has been compared to surfing an avalanche, but rocks mean wrecks and life.
