Bonne Terre Mine
Bonne Terre, Missouri
http://www.2dive.com/btm.htm

This is a dive center that West End Diving runs. It is, basically, a naturally, fresh water flooded, abandoned lead mine. It is a mine, so it is underground. The decent to the dive and equipment platform can seem lengthy and arduous (especially when you have to go back up after an hour or so dive), but it is worth it ... and good exercise.

You do have to transport your own gear up and down the stairs and path. They have a number of trails through the (approximately) 62 degree water and if you make return trips they, always, look to show you something you have not seen before, so you can wind up taking to very long and deep dives. The deeper tunnels even have guidelines attached to the wall so you can find your way back out. The dives are always guided and controlled. I have been back 4 years in a row and have enjoyed their hospitality and dives every time. I, personally, will be going back.
