| Saint Martin |
Saint Martin is a small Caribbean island, and the
smallest land mass that is split by two different countries. It is
located in the northeast part of the Caribbean, a little less than 200
miles east of Puerto Rico. French Saint Martin is part of the French
West Indies (specifically, the Overseas Department of Guadeloupe,
occasionally referred to as the French Antilles), and the Dutch side,
called Sint Maarten (sometimes misspelled Sint Marteen or Saint Maarten)
is part of the Netherlands Antilles (sometimes referred to as the Dutch
Antilles). More generally, St. Martin and the other northern Lesser
Antilles are referred to as the Leeward Islands, because the prevailing
winds generally blow east. The island has a rich heritage, beautiful
beaches and a variety of beautiful dive sites. (Courtesy of Octopus Diving ) |
